Apropos words of advent
December 4, 2009 at 8:56 pm | Posted in devotional | 1 CommentThere’s a TON of stuff happening in our lives this year. Like the rest of you – our life is moving fast – sometimes, at break-neck speed. We’re planning a graduation, looking at colleges, planning a wedding, getting a driver’s license, teaching 5th grade, finalizing an adoption, making a transition with a corporate merger AND all the ‘regular’ stuff. And sometimes I get a little stressed about it all. Sometimes I wonder how it’s all going to work. Sometimes I freak out a little bit. (Sometimes a lot.)
But the verse featured in our advent story the other day was the medicine this fretful soul needed.
“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.For I am the LORD, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.” (Is 41: 10, 13)
God hid a little gem of encouragement right in the middle of my day, when I least expected it. I’ve been steeping in those verses for a few days now…. like a hot bath for the soul.
Relax.
Rest.
Trust.
Take His hand.
